We would like to bring your attention to a recent settlement agreement with the Texas Attorney General’s office involving radiology services. The case arose from allegations that a Texas radiology group and a hospital-affiliated physician practice double billed for ultrasound interpretation services.
As noted in the Attorney General’s news release, the radiologists have agreed to pay $800,000 and physician practice will pay $1.5 million to settle the claim. A complete copy of the news release may be found here.
This settlement underscores the importance of a clear written agreement when providing interpretation services for another entity, whether the radiologists reassign or separately bill for their professional interpretation services. It also underscores the importance of identifying potential compliance issues and proactively taking action to resolve such issues before an action is brought by a whistle-blower or government agency.
